A soothing weekend at Mandarin Oriental Singapore

A soothing weekend at Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Singapore offers plenty of luxury hotels, one element to consider in order to make the difference is the location. Do you prefer to stay in the city center, close to malls? Do you want to have a skyline view from your room? After reviewing St Regis Singapore and Shangri-La Valley Wing last year, we decided this time to visit the Mandarin Oriental Singapore and its incredible Marina Bay views.

Among the long list of five-star hotels settled in Marina Bay, Mandarin Oriental Singapore is definitely special. First, it has the largest club lounge of the city. Then, it offers a magnificent outdoor pool area with 180° views over the Bay. Finally, well… it’s Mandarin Oriental! Which means plenty of high-end services in a luxury cocoon.

Ideally located whatever you come for leisure or business purposes, this place delights by all aspects. Many shopping malls, walking distance to Marina Bay Sands and Gardens to the Bay areas, easy access to Financial District… Just perfect! However I would not recommend it for people traveling with young child, as Mandarin Oriental is traditionally applying many policies about smart casual attitude and quietness. And to be transparent this is why I like this hotel group :)

Living

Despite the building has been originally built in 80s, the renovation done in early 00s makes it still convenient and up to date. I especially like the massive atrium and the glass lifts configuration, surrounded by waters, that gives a unique atmosphere to the overall.

On the other hand, we have amazing outdoor facilities with a beautiful pool on 5th floor – with unmatched city skyline views – and a large fitness room with finest Technogym equipment. The place to be for sunbathing!

Obviously, staying in a Club room – 19th to 21st – is really top-notch and the access given to the Oriental Club is a huge positive point. The list of additional complimentary services offered there is tremendous, I can’t list them all but I would pick out the complimentary laundry of 2 pieces per day, afternoon tea and evening snacks, as well as airport transfer.

Accommodation

We booked a Club City Room and have been upgraded to a Club Marina Bay Room on 19th floor with great views over the Bay; really magical at night! The room is good size and embeds all five-star standards: coffee machine, all possible types of plugs, control of lights and A/C in one place, etc.

To be honest the look and feel is a bit dated; a renovation program for rooms would be appreciable. However for sure the key point of those Club rooms is the complimentary access to the Oriental Club lounge, as I already mentioned; it helps to clear the outdated design in guest’s mind. Another nice Club touch: the specific luxury bathroom amenities Atelier Cologne – Pomelo Paradis line – imported from Paris.

Dining

As a complimentary benefit of staying in a Mandarin Oriental Singapore Club room, we have the chance to try out the afternoon tea selection and evening snacks at the Oriental Club. All were daily prepared and changed by a dedicated cooking staff, which is remarkable. I really enjoyed the Indian evening buffet for instance!

Then we also enjoyed a famous Mandarin Club through room service order. One of my best ever; served on a table within 20 minutes, it was all made of fresh ingredients and still hot once arrived, which is pretty rare for a club sandwich! I am convinced there is a great team behind the scenes.

Level of exigency

Service excellence is the heart of any Mandarin Oriental residence. Attention to details, being proactive, making guests comfortable are the expertise of that group and this is why you can book there without worrying about service quality. I would give a special thank you to the Oriental Club team, who were very friendly and remembered all our preferences straight from the second day.

Stay from March 23rd to 26th, 2017 – Non-sponsored media visit.

Mandarin Oriental Singapore opened in 1987, has been renovated lastly in 2004 and is now composed of 527 room and suites. We stayed in a Club Marina Bay Room – around 35sqm large – which public rates starts at SGD499/night.
