Visiting Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, one of Paris Palace Hotels

Visiting Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, one of Paris Palace Hotels

I’ll be frank, it’s hard to improve on Paris. All one needs to have an unforgettable visit is to walk a few hours along any of its storied streets with nothing more than a croissant and a sense of curiosity as companions. So, I was skepitcal that a hotel could significantly enhance my stay; the acclaimed five-star Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome proved me how wrong I was.

Located in the historic 2nd arrondissement, on the posh Rue de la Paix, the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome is just a short walk away from some of the city’s most famed attractions like the Louvre, the Palais Garnier and the Tuileries Garden. The area also houses some of the City of Light’s most prestigious names in retail luxury, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Boucheron.

Design & Facilities

The refined elegance of the hotel’s interior provides a welcome contrast to the bustle of Paris’ high-end shopping district. The nuanced touches of gold and mahogany work well with the calming beige, limestone and marble décor. Designed by famed American architect Ed Tuttle, the hotel evokes a feeling of sophisticated luxury that highlights substance over showiness.

The exquisite, eye-catching sculptures by Roseline Granet, which are peppered throughout the hotel and guest rooms, add to the airy, uplifting atmosphere of the property. The emphasis on unobtrusive discretion is underscored by the hotel’s subdued entrance and continues inside with a minimalistic, tranquil check-in area.

These subtle touches are designed to make a traveler feel as though they’ve entered a welcome sanctuary – a home-away-from-home in the most sophisticated sense. The exclusive fragrance, created specifically for the property by Parisian perfumer Blaise Mautin, wafts through the corridors and adds to the warm ambiance.

The small but sleek spa is likewise an oasis of calm that beacons world-weary guests to indulge in a massage of facial featuring Crème de la Mer products. The steam room and sauna are an excellent final touch to any treatment or a welcome respite after a workout in the small fitness center.

Accommodation

The property’s luxe, classic aesthetic continues to all the Tuttle-designed 153 guestrooms. The rooms mirror the quiet sophistication of the rest of the hotel, with beige, dark browns and gold accents dominating the decor.

The property’s pain-staking attention to detail is reflected in the great care taken to design even the light fixtures, window latches and door-knobs, which all resemble finely sculpted dancers.

Custom-designed, silky linens and curtains add to the elegant, understated opulence as do the bespoke toiletries, which feature the hotel’s coveted “5 rue de la Paix” address in bold relief. Guests will also enjoy free high-speed internet, Nespresso coffee machines, deep limestone soaker tubs and rain showers. Many of the suites also come equipped with high-end TOTO electronic toilets with heated seats.

Dining

The menu at Pur’, the Michelin-star awarded restaurant by chef Jean-François Rouquette, provides an interesting mix of classic French food with inventive twists like the langoustine carpaccio served with an airy wild fennel panna cotta, or the juicy Challans duck with a unique harissa of piquillos and raspberries.

Pur’s contemporary décor of muted creams, golds and brown accents creates a warm ambiance that does not upstage the food. Guests would be well advised to request a seat near the open kitchen. Watching chef Jean-François work is a real treat that heightens the overall dining experience!

Another impressive feature of the restaurant is its carefully sourced seafood, meat and produce. Rouquette’s commitment to sourcing the best available, France-based products is highlighted on the menu, which provides an overview of where the chef gets his food; butter is coming from the celebrated artisan Jean-Yves Bordier and the lobster from Normandy, for instance.

Guests at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendome can also enjoy breakfast and lunch at Les Orchidées where meals are enjoyed under a lovely glass ceiling, while La Terrasse is an appealing tree-lined courtyard for outdoor dining.

Level of Exigency

The staff at the Park Hyatt Vendome Paris were superlative. Throughout the hotel, from the concierge, to the door attendants to the housekeepers and the check-in staff, all the employees were solicitous without ever being overbearing or intrusive. From the moment you walk into the hotel, they were unerringly polite and warm and seemed more than happy to help any guest in need of assistance.

I found it interesting to note that the hotel staff appeared to have the talent to “read” their guests’ moods and were able to discern whether a person wanted to interact or preferred to be left on their own to quietly contemplate their surroundings.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a place to stay in the heart of Paris with classic French elegance and a high level of service, then Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme offers an inimitable experience. Make the most of your stay in the City of Lights by exploring the finest in French cuisine with at least one meal at Pur’.
