Asia is a great region to enjoy futuristic skylines with modern buildings like in Shanghai, Hong Kong or Tokyo. Let’s focus on another famous city through a gorgeous night walk: Singapore.
Singapore is one of those cities that are definitely most impressive by night, especially when you are discovering it walking. Here is the story of the 3-hour night walk we did there last September ; for me this is a good city-tour idea for any first comer.
Singapore – Formula One Grand Prix setup on Raffles Boulevard
We were staying in Orchard district – first at Shangri-La then at St Regis – which is a very convenient location to move from one place to another by MRT, and we decided to start our walk at City Hall station. From this historical municipal building, we followed Raffles boulevard and immediately we saw how huge is the city customization for the renowned Formula One Grand Prix event… It was few days before the race and all the streets were under works and fences ; well, at least this is unique!
Singapore – Marina Bay Sands view from the Esplanade
Then after a 30-minute walk, we finally arrived at the Esplanade – also called Theatre on the Bay – where the view over the Marina was really breathtaking: Marina Bay Sands – the famous boat-shaped building – on the left and the financial district on the right, including the great Merlion. THE place to take pictures in Singapore, for sure.
Singapore – Fullerton Road
After crossing the Marina via a bridge following Fullerton Road, we arrived at the Merlion – an attraction for tourist, the Singaporean Eiffel Tower – and we decided to finish our night trip discovering the background of the financial district along Boat Quay ; again, a very good place for skyscraper pictures.
Singapore – Old Hill Street Police Station
At the end, we simply crossed New Bridge Road to reach Old Hill Street Police Station – an historical institution in Singapore, an easily recognizable colorful building – where we entered the pleasant Fort Canning Park before going back to City Hall Station to achieve this night circle journey. It took us 3 hours and was truly a good way to discover this vibrant city on a tourist point of view ; if you plan a stopover there, now you know what to do :)
