Unveiling Japanese Luxury of Okura Prestige Bangkok

Unveiling Japanese Luxury of Okura Prestige Bangkok

Several years after a first experience with luxury hotel in Japan, I took the occasion of a trip in Thailand to experiment Japanese luxury once more with Okura Prestige Bangkok. Indeed, the Thai capital hosts since 2012 this stunning gateway to Japan near Lumpini  Park.

I had no precise expectation before arriving at Okura Prestige Bangkok. I knew it was close to Financial district – near BTS Ploenchit Station – so maybe I was assuming “OK, it’s another classical business hotel“, no more. And I have to say this place completely surprised me, far beyond I could imagine! Stunning interior design, brilliant service and a kind of zen atmosphere.

Living

Okura Prestige Bangkok occupies the last floors of a modern glass skyscraper – it reminds me a bit Park Hyatt Beijing – so once arrived at ground entrance you are escorted directly to the reception at 24th floor. There, you discover all the charm of the place: an elegant, refined and no show off luxury through a Japanese-inspired interior design by Thai designers.

I particularly loved the association of marble with low-profile furniture, which say it all: you are in an exclusive and chic place, but not opulent. It resumes pretty well the overall ambiance in this residence and I believe this is a facet of Japanese state of mind.

On 25th floor are located all entertainment places: the outdoor infinity pool, the Okura Spa and the fitness center with top-notch equipment. The pool is quite impressive, you can’t see the void protection so you really feel like swimming in the skyline! Here you enjoy also some Japan touches such as wooden furniture and zen-garden-like aesthetic.

Accommodation

I stayed in the Deluxe Corner Room #2918, a category offering the great benefit to enjoy 180 degree views over the city; I could even see the swimming pool from mine.

Room was very bright, neat Japanese design and obviously all five-star standards were checked. I especially liked the touch screen on bedside table allowing to control lights, A/C, curtains and housekeeping all in one place; very smart! I must also mention, because it’s becoming increasingly rare, that the room was COMPLETELY quiet night and day. No footsteps or outdoor noise, I have to say a huge thank you to Okura Prestige Bangkok for that!

For a few extra I would recommend to go for a Club room with access to Club lounge, were all day snacks and beverages are served. I didn’t check it out, but I am sure both the place and service are amazing.

Dining

During my one-night stay I had the chance to experiment room service ordering an Okura Burger – delicious and fast service – and breakfast at  Up & Above restaurant.

Buffet breakfast selection was extensive and very nicely presented. Eggs and other pancakes/waffles were a-la-carte – complimentary – so you always got a beautiful plate that whets the appetite. And a special good mark for the juice and cheese choice, one of the largest I have seen in Asia.

Level of exigency

It’s impossible to be disappointed by service when staying in a high-end place in Thailand, and Okura Prestige Bangkok is no exception. To be honest all staff – reception, concierge, doormen, etc. – looks really inhabited by the hotel’s Japanese spirit and deliver a discreet but attentive service to guests. More than a business hotel, this property offers high standards of service excellence.

Conclusion

I recommend this location whatever you come in Bangkok for leisure or business. Public transportation (BTS) is 3-minute walking away and main points of interests – shopping malls, cultural spots, etc – are at easy distance by taxi or tuk tuk. And above all, it’s definitely an experience to enjoy a Japanese cocoon in Thailand!

Stay from July 15th to 16th, 2017 – Sponsored media visit, but this article reflects 100% of my opinion and thoughts.

The Okura Prestige Bangkok opened in 2012 and is composed of 240 room and suites. I stayed in a Deluxe Corner Room – around 55sqm large – which public rates start at THB9,500++/night.
