Historical stay at Peninsula Hong Kong

Historical stay at Peninsula Hong Kong
Peninsula Hong Kong is a historical hotel opened in 1928 – the very first of Peninsula Hotels group – which is today a worldwide-awarded reference for hospitality ; its founders’ legacy is an incredible sense of service and guest relations, inside an impressive luxury case.

Staying at Peninsula Hong Kong doesn’t only mean staying in a luxury hotel ; it means also staying in a historical residence that built its reputation thanks to an faultless service through ages, from 1928 when it was the last stop of the trans-Siberian rail link between Europe and Asia to today, one of the TOP 5 hotel in the world. Located in Kowloon district, straight on the Victoria Harbour’s North shore offering full view over the skyline of Hong Kong Central, it’s an essential place for the high society and an attraction for tourists thanks to the iconic entrance and a large fleet of Rolls-Royces Phantoms painted in the hotel’s signature green that always stand-by ; actually, it reminds me the Majestic Barriere in Cannes, France. Impressive.

Living

Peninsula Hong Kong - Lobby

Peninsula Hong Kong – Lobby

Peninsula Hong Kong is split into two common areas, the historical building with the main entrance, the lobby, shopping arcades and some restaurants while the 30-storey tower is an expansion created in 1994 where most of rooms and suites are located. We can feel a different atmosphere between those two parts but the overall is definitely elegant and offer a very pleasant Peninsula experience ; it was the first hotel in the group to complete a next-gen renovation in 2012 that introduced a new Oriental chic interior design followed then by the Peninsula Paris. The Spa is also quite impressive, with its huge indoor pool at 7th floor overlooking Victoria Harbour and the 14 state-of-the-art treatment rooms mixing traditional Chinese elements and contemporary marble tones.

Room

Peninsula Hong Kong – Deluxe Harbour View Suite living room

We were very fortunate to enjoy a 110sqm Deluxe Harbour View Suite – named Kylin – with unobstructed view of Hong Kong Central skyline from both the living-room and bedroom ; let’s be straight to the point, this is one of the best suite I have slept in. Design is very modern, relaxing, stylish and the combination with brand new home automation – touch screen tablets that control everything – is just brilliant, probably the best I ever seen. TV entertainment is very efficient, I especially like the complimentary HD movie digital library. Well, this is certainly a dream appartment for Hong Kong. Did I mention the valet box where you can put your laundry/special request that housekeeping can handle directly?

Maybe the bathroom is a bit out of step – I guess they were not part of the 2012 refurbishment – because even if they are still nice and large, design doesn’t match the rest of the suite and could be refreshed. Anyway, the marble corner bathtub is wonderful!

Dining

Peninsula Hong Kong - The Verandah breakfast setup

Peninsula Hong Kong – The Verandah breakfast setup

We enjoyed only breakfast at Peninsula Hong Kong in The Verandah restaurant and it definitely worth the value: absolutely everything is fresh cooked, homemade, plenty of choice – Asian, Japan, French, American food… – while decoration is very graceful. Special mention to the vanilla cream and the on-demand French omelette.

We also visited the restaurant Chesa, reminiscence of a cosy Alpine chalet which serves authentic Swiss food and wines ; couldn’t imagine to find such a typical restaurant there, moreover with an authentic Swiss Chef!

Level of exigency

Peninsula Hotels group always made service quality its first priority, and we can really feel it. All the staff, I say ALL, do their best to fulfill guests needs and requests in a very polite, fast and – quite rare – elegant way. Never had a laundry request done that fast and that well. Thank you!

Obviously the most iconic part of Peninsula Hong Kong service is certainly doormen, with their white uniform, who greet guests and visitors to let them enjoy an unforgettable Peninsula experience.
