The Puli Hotel and Spa, a unique urban resort

The Puli Hotel and Spa, a unique urban resort
The recent concept of urban resort allowed a new luxury hotel generation to born, offering to crowded cities fine travelers large oasis of relaxation and opulence. The Puli Hotel and Spa embodies perfectly this trend, in the heart of the vibrant Shanghai.

Settled in the historical Puxi district of Shanghai, 5-minute walking from Jing’An Temple and overlooking Jing’An Park, the Puli Hotel and Spa is actually the very first China’s urban resort and gives the best of two worlds: the convenience to be close to everything like a regular hotel and the sensation to stay in a world apart, away from the busy city, like a resort. The result is a wonderful residence member of Leading Hotels of the World with a stunning design where you won’t want to leave, whatever you stay there for business or leisure ; just continue reading to understand why!

Living

The Puli - Long Bar

The Puli – Long Bar

Once arrived at the Puli’s entrance, it doesn’t take long before being catch by Wow factor. Indeed, few steps before entering the lobby you have to pass through an intermediate room that sets the tone of entire stay: impressive, elegant, out-of-this-world. The huge lobby itself is simply stunning with a brilliant contemporary Asian design, creating an atmosphere of luxury and serenity to the overall ; it also reinforces the sensation of being in a resort. I especially like the bar-lounge area – named Long Bar – at the end of that place, which has a very uncommon layout with outdoor terrace and turns very busy during peak times ; it’s an evidence of success! On the other hand, at the top of the building you can find a western fine-dining restaurant – under renovation during our stay – with 180 degree view over Shanghai, used for buffet breakfast as well.

Relaxing at The Puli Hotel and Spa is possible thanks to the Anantara Spa and the indoor heated pool, both located at 3rd floor.

Room

Grand Room

Grand Room

I stayed in a Grand Room, an intermediate room category offering a studio-concept space with nice views over Jing’An Park. Wooden floor, luxury materials and furnitures, large bathroom area – amenities by London’s Gilchrist and Soames and what a bathtube! – and great lightning design are the key points that make it worth the extra money. Here again, we can feel the resort-like ambience thanks to the attention of detail and the coherence with other areas. Oh, and yes, the mini-bar is complimentary.

Dining

Room Service - Chicken sandwich

Room Service – Chicken sandwich

Unfortunately the western fine-dining restaurant was under renovation during my stay ; however I experimented breakfast and – light – room service which were both pleasant. Buffet breakfast selection is really large and covers all Asian and Western tastes ; I would expect more juices but I guess more will be available once restaurant will re-open. Regarding in-room dining, I simply ate my best chicken sandwich EVER: fresh homemade food, very tasty and well served. I can’t even imagine how amazing will be the restaurant once re-opened!

Level of exigency

Check-in/check-out in a minute, always available lobby staff, proactive waiters for breakfast, friendly doormen (very rare in China), invisible and efficient housekeeping… What should I add? Service quality at the Puli Hotel and Spa is absolutely faultless and can compete with any world-class competitor ; you are in a true five-star hotel, and you feel it.

Stay from February 20th to 21st, 2016 – Sponsorized media visit, but this article reflects 100% of my opinion and thoughts.

The Puli Hotel and Spa opened in 2009 and is composed of 229 guestrooms and suites. I stayed in a Grand Room – around 47sqm – which public rate starts at 2.880CNY/night.
