Staying at the Peninsula Bangkok after à 12-hour flight from Paris is always delightful. It was the second time in this hotel and I have been personnaly greeted by the Hotel Manager upon arrival and straight accompanied to our suite, the 3rd best suite of the hotel, the Terrace Suite at the very last floor with Terrace and jaccuzi overlooking all Bangkok outside, and 200sqm of living space inside… THIS is luxury :)
That’s true, the suite is just amazing. As usually some chocolates and fruit with Champagne were waiting for me but for this special suite you have also special attention: some chocolate with eatable gold ! Then after check-in we took lot of time to discover the whole suite, the 2 bathrooms with jaccuzi and THE terrace ; one negative note, they have still their old fashion bath products that we discovered 3 years ago. It’s time to change ! In public areas you don’t feel as a VIP as there is no specific areas for top level suite guests. Well, in this hotel mostly everyone is VIP and the service is always 5-star for all guests but you would like to feel special when you book such a suite. By the way this Peninsula property, large as a resort, touch the perfection.
Living
Peninsula Bangkok is so representative of thai luxury : smart, smily, elegant and chic. The pool few meters away from Chao Praya river, the impressive building, the tennis court and the beautiful gardens… Welcome to Heaven !
You can find different restaurants (thai, japanese or french styles), differents bars (cosy in the main building or casual at the pool area) and a top notch SPA that we tried twice; once for a strong thai massage (horrible) and once for an aromatherapic massage, very fine. Therapists are among the best in the world, it is probably in their DNA ! The location is very nice, away from loudy city centers but also very closed thanks to the boat shuttle service that brings you to the next tube station.
Room
A 200sqm suite with 360 panoramic view over Bangkok and neighboors… Really amazing and soooo good to enter here after a long-flight from Europe.
The suite is made in an old thai style with lot of wooden furnitures, floor and massive doors; as usually with Peninsula you can find all necessary domotic and electronic devices. Special mention to the different TVs, which were very brand new (very large and slim) and it’s quite rare even in 5-star properties. Bathroom is supersized with a double jaccuzi in front of the window, a XL shower and 2 basins; orchidees are daily renewed like everywhere in the suite.
Dining
Just have a look at my pictures… A very good room-service breakfast and VIP welcome chocolates in gold ! I didn’t expect that much but it is due when you book one of the best suite of the whole city ! We tried also many times some bar dishes at the pool area and it was very nice and good value. Thai restaurant looks also quite good but also quite expansive so we didn’t experiment.
Level of exigency
can’t complain about thai service… I think even in an Ibis hotel it would be perfect ;) The Hotel Manager greeted us by name when we arrived by limousine, everyone is smiling and answer promptly to your needs when you ask something… They do their best to provide the luxuriest service and be very discret at the same time; only asian people know how to !
In term of additional services provide by the hotel, I can push the boat shuttle service that is soooo convenient and can bring you either to tube station, to the opposite Peninsula Pier or even to a mall miles away closed to the historic city center.
Stay from February 20th to 22nd 2012
