Authentic Milanese Luxury at Hotel Principe di Savoia

Authentic Milanese Luxury at Hotel Principe di Savoia

Milan is an interesting city full of history with plenty of luxury places. I already stayed there, in the very first Bulgari’s hotel, and this time I wanted to experiment the original Milanese luxury. Here is Principe di Savoia.

I start to be an expert of the Italian luxury hospitality market, with many hotel reviews in Florence, Pisa, Venice, Roma and Milan. But for this stay I was not expecting to find the new top 1 of that local collection!

Yes, Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan is really exceptional and that location, an institution in the city, is a great place to feel the authentic Milanese luxury.

Living

Hotel Principe di Savoia offers a classical opulent luxury in a traditional Milanese style. Interior designers Thierry Despont, Francesca Basu, and Celeste Dell’Anna paid a fantastic tribute to Italian tradition.

The large lobbys opens in the front desk, lobby’s restaurant – Il Salotto – and concierge office. During my stay staff prepared a splendid Christmas tree made with taste. Rest of the building, including floors’ corridors and restaurants, follows that classic-chic style.

With the exception of Club 10, the hotel’s penthouse Spa: it actually makes me think of a ship’s cabin with its horizontal wood lines on walls and its overall decor. Design of the pool might not be the most modern, but still well maintained and no used signs.

Accommodation

The Junior Suite I had – #624 – was a stunning showcase of Milanese luxury: woodwork everywhere, splendid classical furnitures, sliding doors between living and bed rooms. Absolutely gorgeous, look at those walls!

It’s actually the first time I see a Junior Suite with a separate living room, it makes it a very good value for money. I was overlooking North side of Milan and its business district. Not amazing, but at least not overlooked.

I spent also lot of time in the HUGE bathroom in white marble, fully furnished with Acqua di Parma amenities, a glass shower, a 2-people bathtub and – welcome to Italy – a bidet. Nothing missed!

Dining

I enjoyed dinner at Il Salotto, the lobby’s casual restaurant. The menu is pretty simple but – good point – the kitchen is able to cook other things on demand, like spaghetti carbonara I asked for my second day.

Buffet breakfast was served at Acanto, the hotel’s fine-dining restaurant. Large choice of sweet and salt dishes, my preference went to the bacon and sausage – delicious! – and the vanilla cake. Pleasant too, fresh squizzy juices: during my stay I had homemade juices of strawberry, orange, grapefruit and others on demand.

Level of exigency

How to recognize a true five-star hotel? See it’s guest service. Hotel Principe di Savoia has one of the best I ever seen; staff is attentive, proactive and very kind in a natural way. They really made my stay, I can’t point out a specific area because they all were perfect: doormen, front desk, concierge, restaurant and spa. Bravo!

Conclusion

What a discovery! I was not expecting this level of service and luxury, so my stay at Principe di Savoia was a very good surprise. I definitely recommend it to anyone loving classical luxury and high attention to details.

Stayed from November 19th to 21st, 2017 – Sponsored media stay, but this article reflects 100% of my opinion and thoughts.

The Hotel Principe di Savoia originally opened in 1927, has been renovated in 2009 and is now composed of 301 rooms and suites. I stayed in a Junior Suite – around 50sqm – which public rate starts at EUR600/person.
